Meftal belongs to a category of medications known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It functions by decreasing the hormones that lead to inflammation and discomfort in the body. Meftal is commonly utilized to alleviate pain or swelling associated with arthritis, as well as for menstrual cramps. Avoid using this medication shortly before or after undergoing heart bypass surgery (also referred to as coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Administer Meftal orally, typically four times a day with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters), or as instructed by your healthcare provider. Refrain from lying down for at least 10 minutes following the intake of this medication. If you experience stomach upset, consider taking the medication with food or milk.
To minimize the likelihood of stomach bleeding and other adverse effects, use Meftal at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Do not increase your dosage, take it more often, or extend the duration of use beyond what is prescribed. Generally, this medication should not be taken for more than 7 consecutive days.
Meftal is intended for the temporary relief of mild to moderate pain arising from various conditions. It is also effective in reducing pain and blood loss associated with menstrual periods.
